About:
Danny Virtue
A Legacy of Stunts, Screen, and Service
Danny Virtue is a name that resonates with a significant presence in the entertainment industry. An internationally recognised producer, director, stunt coordinator, horse trainer, and stunt performer, Virtue boasts a multifaceted career that sets him apart. His breadth of skills and knowledge coupled with his unyielding commitment to his craft and community have firmly established him as a respected and influential figure in the Canadian film and television business.
Virtue's journey into the entertainment industry started rather unusually. At 14, he found himself wrapped in a circus ring mat, awakening in the United States to begin his circus career. This unconventional start laid the foundation for his future in entertainment. Together with fellow circus performer turned world-class stuntman, Dar Robinson, he formed the partnership "Stunts Behind the Scenes," a stepping stone into the world of stunts.
Danny's circus background would continue to influence his career trajectory, leading him to create and produce the "World Circus '84: The Five Ring Rock n Roll Extravaganza." This extravaganza, a first of its kind, was performed at the Los Angeles Forum prior to the 1984 Olympic Games.
A pivot to movies and television led Virtue to create the first indigenous television series wholly produced and set in British Columbia. The multi-award-winning "Neon Rider," created in partnership with Atlantis and Winston Rekert, ran for 65 episodes, and was syndicated in over 100 countries. In his roles as Executive Producer, creator, director, and stunt and horse coordinator for "Neon Rider," Virtue showcased his multifaceted talents and solidified his standing in the industry.
Virtue's contributions to the entertainment world have been recognised with numerous awards. Notably, he and Mr. Rekert were recipients of the prestigious Peter Ustinov Humanitarian Award at the Banff International Television Festival in 1993 for the superior and educational values of "Neon Rider". Other accolades include the Motion Picture Industry Association of BC - BC Creates Community Award (2016), Outstanding Achievement Award – Leo Awards (2015), and the Best Stunt Coordination in a Feature Film – "GUNLESS"- Leo Awards (2010).
With the establishment of the Virtue Studio Ranch in Mission, B.C., Virtue expanded his influence in the industry. The 200-acre film studio and working ranch is the first of its kind in Canada, employing hundreds of people on numerous projects that have been shot over the years.
Not one to rest on his laurels, Virtue further expanded his offerings with the addition of two world-class properties: the renowned Old West Bordertown in the Fraser Valley of British Columbia and a collection of over 60 movie horses, including world-renowned fall horses and Liberty horses. This expansion has not only diversified the local economy but has also further solidified Virtue's position in the industry.
Virtue's career boasts over 1,000 film and television credits, reflecting his work throughout Canada, the United States, and Europe. His most recent credits include the Stunt Coordinator role on the television show "See", a flagship show for the new Apple TV+ platform, and the upcoming movie Jurassic Park.
Away from the screen, Virtue is known for his mentorship programs, launching successful careers for many in the notoriously tough film and television business. But his proudest achievement is the continuation of his legacy through his two sons, with Marshall currently working as a director and stunt coordinator for Warner Brothers.
Virtue's philanthropic endeavours are epitomised in the Virtue Foundation, a charity that utilises his life's work to give back to the community. The annual event "A Day at the Ranch" has been attracting children from various organisations around the Lower Mainland for over 20 years. With stunt performances, animal trainers, wrestlers, gymnasts, and celebrities, this day provides a fun-filled, unforgettable experience for the kids and their families.
Danny Virtue is not just a notable figure in the entertainment industry, but also a devoted community member and a mentor. His diverse career, successful mentorship programs, and charitable initiatives are testimonies to his extraordinary influence in the industry and beyond.
