Celebrating Stunt Mastery: The 2024 Taurus World Stunt Awards Winners

The much celebrated 2024 Taurus World Stunt Awards honoured the daring performances by stunt experts who risk their lives to bring exciting action sequences to the silver screen. In a colourful ceremony, this year’s event showcased how stunts are important in movie making and recognized those who facilitate adrenaline filled moments. From heart-stopping leaps through the air to combat scenes full of fury, these accolades acknowledged talent, artistry and commitment among the world’s best stunt people highlighting their importance to film magic.

Stunts have a long and illustrious history in Hollywood dating back to early cinema where physical feats like horseback riding, shootouts and slapstick falls were at the core of movies. Despite their vital role though, stunt professionals have struggled for recognition for many years. This is what The Taurus World Stunt Award tries to address by acknowledging these unsung heroes.

The award for Best Stunt in an Action Film went to “John Wick: Chapter 4” for its Stair Fight and Fall scene which was one of the highlights of the night. It was an intense sequence that saw Keanu Reeves’ titular character fighting his way up the 222 steps of Sacré Coeur de Montmartre in Paris. This scene which took seven nights of shooting with 35 stunt performers showcased the perfect blend of meticulous planning and physical prowess, leaving audiences in awe of the sheer scale and execution.

In the Best Stunt in a Non-Action Film category, "No Hard Feelings" took home the award for its Naked Beach Fight scene. Jennifer Lawrence's bold and surprising performance, charging across a beach entirely nude to take down some adversaries, was a standout moment that exemplified how stunt work can elevate a film, even outside the traditional action genre.

The Best Fight award was given to the Kitchen Fight in "John Wick: Chapter 4," featuring Donnie Yen. His performance, characterized by lightning-quick moves and inventive choreography, stood out in a year packed with memorable hand-to-hand combat scenes. Yen's ability to blend intense action with comedic elements, reminiscent of the silent film era's greats, made this scene particularly unforgettable.
